More detail on this person: Henry "Max" Wagner, of Mary Esther, Fl, passed away on October 3, 2020 at the age of 78 in Niceville, Florida. He was born on September 14, 1942 in Junction City, KS, son of Henry and Pearl Wagner. He met and married his loving wife, Eva Wagner, on September 15, 1963. Max enlisted in the Army in 1966 and attended Warrant Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course 67-11. Upon graduation Max was sent to Vietnam and served a one-year tour as a helicopter pilot. Later he accepted a commission and then served a second one-year tour in Vietnam. Max transitioned into fixed wing aircraft. He became an instructor pilot in many different types of helicopters. While serving his country, he received a Business Administration degree from the University of Nebraska in 1976. Max retired from the US Army after a twenty-year career in the rank of Major. Max was the recipient of Master Aviator Badge, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star w/ 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Medal with 36 numeral denoting subsequent awards, Joint Service Commendation Medal among many other awards and decorations. Max was a true patriot, hard worker and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Pearl Wagner; his wife, Eva; and his brother, Gregg. Max is survived by his son, Gregory (Shawn) Wagner; his daughter, Nicole (John) Hodskins; and eight grandchildren. A celebration of Max's life will be held at Emerald Coast Funeral Home located at 161 Racetrack Road NW, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32547 on Friday, October 9, 2020. Family visitation will be from 5-6pm and the celebration of life will begin at 6pm and will include U.S. Army military honors.
