More detail on this person: Charles David Wilson, known to his friends as "David", passed away suddenly on June 13, 2018 at the age of 70. He was born on November 5, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Bill Wilson and Doris Wilson Wise (Hearnsberger). He was raised in San Antonio where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. David continued his education at University of Maryland where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a teaching degree. He married Patsy Novian on July 3, 1971 in Fredericksburg, Texas and the two of them have lived on the "Wilson Ranch" in Florence, Texas with their two children since 1983. In 1969, at the young age of 22, David joined the United States Army where he found his love of flying Huey helicopters as a warrant officer, medivac pilot, and later an instructor pilot, Master Army Aviator and the commander of the Hood Army Airfield. He flew bravely during the Vietnam War in an air combat unit, where he was shot down "one and a half times" as he would always say. In total, he served in the Republic of Vietnam; Germany; Fort Rucker, Alabama; the Republic of Korea, and finally Fort Hood, Texas. He earned various awards including the Air Medal, Bronze Service Star, and the Army Commendation Medal. He retired with honors from the US Army in 1991 as a Captain. After his retirement from the Army he taught Texas History and World Cultures at several Middle Schools in Killeen and Round Rock. After retiring from teaching, he became a full-time rancher, farmer, and Jack of All Trades. David was a kind and generous man who was committed to family, friends, his students when he taught, as well as his ranch and animals. He was a selfless man, always willing to lend a hand and help his neighbors, even though he didn't like to ask for help himself. He touched many lives and will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his father Bill Wilson, and his step-father Arvid Wise. He is survived by his loving wife Patsy, his son Christopher and daughter Dylana. He will lovingly be remembered by his mother, Doris, his sisters Diane and Donna, her husband Hugo, and their three children: Nicolas, Marco and Danica, along with many other nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. A Graveside Service will follow at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas at 12:00 p.m. the same day. David always preferred to dress casual and his family is sure he would want the same attire for his funeral, so please come in casual and comfortable clothes. Memorial donations can be made to Wounded Warrior Project or the charity of your choice. You may leave a memory or message for the family in the online guestbook at www.RamseyFuneral.com.
