More detail on this person: Dr. Joseph Wasmond went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 19, 2024, at his home in Farragut, Tenn., at the age of 74. He was born on December 22, 1949, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to his late parents Mr. Robert L (Patricia) Wasmond. Joe is the eldest of eleven children. He graduated from Elgin High School in 1967, University of Nebraska College of Business in 1973, and Trinity Evangelical Divinity School with a Doctorate of Theology in 1988. At age twenty, he served in the United States Army as a Huey helicopter pilot in Vietnam from 1969 till 1970. Joe was honorably discharged in 1977 decorated with two Distinguished Flying Crosses, 42 Air Medals, and the Bronze Star for his heroism in arial flight. He married his childhood sweetheart, Kathy, in 1970. He spent years as a building contractor and real estate broker after Vietnam before he and Kathy became career missionaries with the Evangelical Free Church in 1982. He served as a church planter/pastor in Africa, Guatemala, and Florida. He also served as International Director for Freedom in Christ Ministries from 1995 till 2001 before becoming president of FICM from 2001 to 2006. In 2006, Joe transitioned once again to focus on training leaders and serving families from their newly established platform, Living Legacy International. His ministry of evangelism and discipleship has taken him to more than sixty countries. Until his homegoing, he was passionately sharing the gospel in hopes of transforming lives through the power of Jesus Christ. Joe is survived by his daughters, Ms. Jennifer (Jenny) Levesque and Mrs. Sarah (Don) Brown; granddaughters, Isabella, Katherine, and Natalie; siblings, Paula (Charles) Stanley, Cheri (Philip) Heinrich, Cindy (Julio) Ramirez, Janet (John) Bayer, Shelley (William) Lewis, Mary (Gary) MacDowell, Robert Wasmond, Paul (Lisa) Wasmond, Patrick Wasmond, and Ellen (Benjamin) Edge; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of forty-five years, Kathy Wasmond; parents, Mr. Robert L. (Patricia) Wasmond. Family will receive friends on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 4:00-5:30pm with a service to follow at 5:30pm at Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel located at 11915 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 37934. The 21 gun salute and folding of the flag is at 3pm if any veterans would like to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a monetary donation to First Concord Baptist Church.
