More detail on this person: Ronald Weigeshoff lived a long and storied life, though the time we are given is never enough with the ones we love. Ron passed away on November 3, 2023 in Nashville, Tennessee, surrounded by his children and family. He will be remembered for both his dedication to protecting his country through his military service, but also for his love of Tennessee football, fishing, cowboy movies, and the holiday stuffing he made every year. His grandchildren will remember him for his dedication to being present for the big moments, while his great grandchildren will remember him for the stories read together and his punctuality when fresh cookies were in the oven. We can't imagine life without his laughter, his humor, and his dedication to family. He was a mentor to many and taught us all to aspire to be better. Ronald was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, to William J. Weigeshoff and Latitia M. Weigeshoff (Dobbs), where he grew up with his siblings, William, Robert, Richard, Joan, Lillian, and Donald (Donna), the last of whom is still living. Ron and his wife, Esther G. Weigeshoff (Smith), were married for 57 years, before her passing in 2013. He is survived by his three children, Cynthia Neuhoff (Carl), William Weigeshoff (Carolyn), and Raymond Weigeshoff (Tamara), as well as eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. At the age of seventeen, Ronald joined the U.S. Army, and began what would grow to be an illustrious military career of nearly thirty years that saw him traveling around Southern and Central America, Germany, and Vietnam as a Special Forces Green Beret. In 1967 he transitioned to flying helicopters as a Chief Warrant Officer, flying two tours in Vietnam, Germany, and multiple locations across the United States. After his retirement he worked for the department of the Army as a civilian, servicing fleets of helicopters around the world to include combat zones in Bosnia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. This combined with his previous service totaled more than fifty years of service to his country. He wore the coveted Special Forces Tab, a Master Parachutist Badge, and Senior Aviator Wings and was recognized for his gallantry and heroism several times over his career. Among his many recognitions include: • Vietnam Campaign Medal • Vietnam Service Medal w/ 8 Campaign Stars • 16 x Air Medals • A Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Palm • A Bronze Star • A Purple Heart • A Distinguished Flying Cross After the death of his wife he moved back to Nashville from Jacksonville, Florida to be closer to his family. It was then he became an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church, A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Christ the King Church, 3001 Belmont Blvd. Visitation was held prior to the Mass in the church at 9:00 a.m. A full military honors service was held at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville, TN. 37221 beginning at 1:00 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the charity of your choice or to his favorite charity, Wounded Warrior Project Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.marshalldonnellycombs.com for the Weigeshoff family.
