More detail on this person: Lawrence "Larry" A. Woodall, Jr. was born October 25, 1944 to Lawrence A. Woodall Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Stewart Woodall died December 11, 2024. Larry from graduated in 1962 from Ensley High School and after graduation attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham and subsequently the University of Montevallo. In May of 1968 Larry enlisted in the United States Army where he trained to become a Bell UH-1 Iroquois (aka The Huey) Helicopter Pilot and served in Vietnam from May 1970 - June 1971. Larry achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II and served with the 134th Assault Helicopter Company, 3rd Flight Platoon, Call Sign "Devil 8". He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars - V Device, over 18 Air Medals and other medals and citations. After his honorable discharge from the U. S Army, Larry served in the Army National Guard from 1971-1975. He went back to school utilizing his G. I. Bill to attend flight school and obtained his commercial "fixed wing"license. He worked in the commercial coal industry as a helicopter pilot for over 25 years. In his lifetime he logged over 10,000 flight hours. After his time as a pilot came to an end, he went back to school and earned his commercial real estate license. In 2001, he began to work for Alabama Power Company in Corporate Real Estate, in the Western Division as a Corporate Real Estate Specialist where he continued to work until his passing. Larry's favorite activities were watching his grandson CJ play baseball, and two of his proudest moments were watching CJ and his team (Sumiton Christian) win a State high school baseball championship and seeing CJ graduate as the Valedictorian of his high school class. He also enjoyed watching Alabama Football, and taking family vacations to Orange Beach, and saltwater fishing. Larry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Wedaman Woodall, his daughters, Kelli W. Harlan (Chris), and Kim Woodall; grandson Christopher "CJ" J. Harlan, and cousins Kenny Smith (Jane) and family. He is also survived by his favorite canine companion, girly girl Elli. The visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at Peoples Chapel Funeral Home. The graveside service will be at 2:00 Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Forest Grove Cemetery.
