Winn March 20, 1946 ~ August 31, 2015 Carmel,
CA. Terry lived a life of adventure, exploration,
dedication and love.
He grew up in Pacific Grove where he was a leader
in scouting and received an Eagle Scout rank. He
completed his military service as an Army Captain
and pilot in Vietnam earning the Distinguished
Flying Cross for his heroic efforts. Terry
completed a Business degree from San Jose State
University and worked internationally in Iran for
Bell Helicopter and in executive management
positions in Thailand and the U.S. for several
high-technology electronics firms, including
Radionics, GSS Array, Gateway Computers, and
Cabletron. He retired in 1998 and settled in
Carmel Valley where he was an avid tennis player
and adventure traveler for many more years.
Terry's zest for life took him to more than 60
countries on six continents. He loved traveling
and outdoor adventures including scuba diving,
kayak fishing, flyfishing, backpacking, mountain
climbing, skiing, and bungee jumping. With his
wife, he climbed and hiked the Annapurna Circuit
in Nepal, Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, the Coast to
Coast trail in England, the "W" in Patagonia,
Chile, the Tiger-Leaping Gorge in Tibet, and the
Alps from France to Switzerland. He also loved
exploring the energy, culture and food of exotic
cities including much of Europe as well as Moscow,
Beijing, Bangkok, New Delhi, Bombay, and places
in Mongolia. Closer to home, he especially loved
backpacking in the Sierra Wilderness.
Terry was preceded in death by his father, Francis
E. Winn and mother, also named Rita Winn. He is
survived by his wife, Rita B. Winn; two sisters,
Sharon DeWitt and Colleen Tobin; a brother, Brian
Winn; and nieces and nephews Kurt Kalauch,
Marnie Kalauch, Julie Cupp, Kelly Tobin and Emily
Winn.
A celebration of life combined with celebrating
his 30th wedding anniversary will be held from
1:30-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 20th at the
Rio Grill. Donations in his name may be made to
the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where he volunteered.
