More detail on this person: Robert "Bob" Lee Wallace Robert "Bob" Lee Wallace was born March 22nd 1947 in Pensacola, Florida to Dorothy King. Bob was a military brat, moving around to various countries/ cities around the southeast before completing high school in Chesapeake Bay Virginia. After graduation, Bob enlisted in the Army and was sent to basic training. Upon graduation, he went to air traffic control school then ended up going to flight school in Ft Wolters Texas/Ft Rucker, Alabama where he met his future wife, Onie McGuire. He was deployed to Korea. While in Korea, he had the honor of transporting Commander Busher of the USS Pueblo. After returning to Alabama in 1969, he and Onie were married, settling at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA where their first child, Samantha, was born. After the birth of Samantha, Bob was deployed to Vietnam for a year tour. This part of his life was very important to him; for the rest of his life Bob identified himself as a Veteran (usually wearing a Vietnam Veteran hat) and was extremely proud of his service. He would always take the time to thank other Veterans for their service. After Vietnam, Bob continued flying the UH-1 Huey with the Alabama National Guard and took a job as an Air Traffic Controller in Montgomery where their second child, John, would be born. In 1977 Bob was given the opportunity to move to Alaska. Among his jobs there, he was full time with the Alaska National Guard where he was a Supervisory Flight Instructor for the UH-60 Blackhawk retiring as a Lt Colonel, flying the Alaska pipeline, and working various other jobs. He and Onie would stay until 2000 before moving to Minnesota to be close to their first grandchild. Bob would eventually retire again in 2007 from the Army Medical Recruiting Station. Over the next 9 years Bob and Onie split their time between Minnesota and Alabama spending time with their two kids and 6 grandkids. Being a husband, father, and grandfather was what mattered the most to Bob; he treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren the most, always quick to spoil them. He will be greatly missed by them. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy King. He is survived by his wife, Onie; daughter, Samantha (Dusty); son, John (Jennifer); and 6 grandkids. In Minnesota, Bob attended Bible Baptist Church and in Alabama, First Baptist Church of Hoover. He loved talking and socializing with his church families. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 2, 2018 at 10:15 AM at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo.
