More detail on this person: Robert Van Schoick Jr., 68, of Ann Arbor passed away with dignity on January 11, 2018 after a courageous fight against cancer and complicating health issues. Robert was born in Albion, Michigan to Robert and Norma Van Schoick Sr. He is survived by his wife Jan of 47 years, son Robert III (Stephanie) Van Schoick, daughter Elizabeth (Dave) Cook, granddaughters (Grace, Elaina, Sarah), grandson (Robert IV), devoted siblings and extended family. Robert was a highly decorated, yet humble veteran who served in the Vietnam war from 1969-71 as a helicopter pilot and Chief Warrant Officer of the 7/17th Calvary, U.S. Army. Founder of The Deburring Company, American Metal Finishing and Toledo Deburring, Robert is the purest example of the "American Dream". He enjoyed the merits of hard work, was a true leader and entrepreneur at heart. Robert traveled annually to the family's favorite vacation destination in Cozumel and was a competitive recreational golfer. He enjoyed spending free time with family during beach trips to Lake Michigan, chasing fireflies with his grandchildren and catching up on life around the fireplace. Robert chose to live his life with perseverance, measure, and absolute courage. A Memorial service will take place on February 2 (time TBA) at Fox Hills Country Club "Fox Classic" Hall, 8768 N Territorial Rd, Plymouth, MI. Robert will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor. Memorial contributions may be made to the SJMHS Nursing Education & Scholarship Fund (https://giving.stjoeshealth.org) or the Huron Valley Humane Society (http://www.hshv.org).
