More detail on this person: "Dirk" Richard Vandenakker died June 13, 2022, in Fridolfing, Germany in his home, and was attended by his sister from Michigan. He was treated for blood cancers for over 17 years,10 years beyond his 5 to 7 years prognosis. His wife had died previously in 2013. Dirk served with the Black Widows of C Co., 101st AHB, 101st Airmobile, Vietnam 1970/1971. He was born in the Netherlands, Friesland, Nieuwehorne and emigrated to the United States at age 12. With his appearance, demeanor, and radio voice, he was affectionately known as the "Flying Dutchman"
