More detail on this person: V.L. "Sonny"Ą Thompson, 79 of McGehee, Arkansas passed away January 21, 2019 in Pine Bluff. He was born January 28, 1939 in Watson, Arkansas, a son of the late William L. and Myrtle Shields Thompson. His parents, and a sister, Hazel Thompson Laws preceded him in death. Sonny retired after 20 years as a CW 3 helicopter pilot, he served in Thailand, Indochina, Korea and Vietnam. He was Baptist and enjoyed bowling, any sports and military History. But no matter where he was living, he was a Razorback fan. Survivors are his wife, Betty Moreland Thompson of McGehee, Arkansas and two sons, Bobby L. Thompson and wife, Vicki of Watauga, Texas and Robbie L. Thompson and wife, Dorothy of Springtown, Texas and three brothers, Gene Thompson, Al Thompson both of Dallas, Texas and Alton Thompson of Allen, Texas, three sisters, Bertha Bush of McGehee, Arkansas, Ruby Dell Pyle of Springdale, Arkansas, Denise Partin of Wallaha, South Carolina, also seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation to be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, prior to funeral services at 2 P.M. both held January 25, 2019 at Griffin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Freddie McCann officiating and burial following with military honors in Watson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
