More detail on this person: Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) William F. Thomas, 72, passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2018 in Riverdale. He was born in Rose Hill, North Carolina to Helen and Steven Thomas. Bill was a Retired Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army and a Master Army Aviator. He served two tours as a Gunship Pilot in Vietnam. During his career, Bill was awarded many medals, including a Bronze Star and 31 Air Medals. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Steven Thomas and is survived by his wife of 52 years, Wilmoth Thomas; his sons, Brigadier General (Ret.) U.S. Army Kelly Joe Thomas (Sue), Thomas D. Thomas and Major (Ret.) USAF Don Ray Thomas (Tammy); his grandchildren, Kristen Cummings (Trey) and Captain U.S. Army Joel Thomas (Lindsay); his grandson, Cavan Thomas; his grandchildren, Will Thomas (Tyler), Drew Thomas, Jessica Thomas (Cadet USAF Academy); his great-grandchildren, Camden Cummings, Ryder Cummings, Lilly Thomas, Rylee Thomas; his mother, Helen Thomas; his brother, Steven Ray Thomas, Jr. (Saunda). The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM on Friday, July 27, 2018 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, GA. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, GA, with Dr. Sam Matthews officiating.
