More detail on this person: John C. Shaw, Jr., Col. (Ret.), 79 of Keo, Arkansas, passed away August 5, 2019. Col. (Ret.) Shaw graduated from Henderson State in 1963, was commissioned into the U.S Army in 1964 and served 29 years. During his 29 years Col. (Ret.) Shaw served as Director of DES, Brigade Commander of the 2nd Armored Division and Senior Army Advisor for the Arkansas National Guard. Col. (Ret.) Shaw served two tours in Vietnam as a US Army helicopter pilot where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for acts of heroism in aerial combat, the Bronze Star (Second Oak Leaf Cluster), and the Air Medal with Valor. Upon retirement, Col. (Ret.) Shaw served as Military Advisor in the Kuwaiti Theater. He was preceded in death by his parents, Neoma Shaw Short and John Shaw; wife Dora Richey Shaw; and sister, Edith Shaw. He is survived by wife Sara S. Shaw; sister Nancy S. Jackson of Searcy, Arkansas; son John R. Shaw of Birmingham, Alabama; and daughter Shannon S. Hudkins (Randy) of Magnolia, Texas; grandchildren Madison and Ryan Hudkins. He is also survived by Brian (Gretchen) Estes and children Burke and Riley of Wilmington, North Carolina; and Jill (Haden) Etheridge and children Russell and Brooks of Lantana, Texas. Memorials may be made to Arkansas State Veterans Home, Pulaski County Humane Society, or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by Roller England Funeral Home (501) 842-3939.
