More detail on this person: He was the oldest child of James D. Salyer Sr. and Marjorie Mae Kindle Salyer. He grew up in Dola, OH where he was the quarterback for the Hardin Northern High School Bears leading them to an undefeated season during his sophomore year. He earned a BS in Political Science from St. Leo University. He served 20 years in the U.S. Army from 1968 - 1988 in Germany, Korea, and the U.S, as well as three tours in Vietnam as a highly decorated helicopter pilot and war hero. He also became the first instructor pilot at Hunter Army Airfield. He retired from the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. He became a landscape contractor, real estate broker and general contractor. He was a member of the Freemasons, Savannah Shriners, and the Savannah (Cleveland) Browns Backers Club. He was preceded in death by his father, James D. Salyer, Sr. and brother, Gary Lee Salyer. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Joy Veasey Salyer; daughters, Wende Sue Salyer Feathers and Tracy Lynn Salyer Sweat (Doug); grandchildren, Madison Sloan Feathers, Bradley Evan Salyer, and Timothy Dale Feathers; step grandchildren, Michael, Tyler, Stephanie, Dori, and Jake, all of Savannah; mother, Marjorie Mae Kindle Salyer of Dola, OH; brother, Dave Salyer (Teri) of Ada, OH; sisters, Joyce Salyer Pees (Denny) of Dunkirk, OH, and Marsha Salyer Flinn (Brian) of Kenton, OH; mother-in-law, Jeanette Veasey; and sister-in-law, Judy Layden (David) of Savannah.
