Steponaitis "Beloved father, grandfather & brother " John Victor Steponaitis, 76, of Watertown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at the West Haven Veteran's Hospital. John was born in Waterbury, CT on October 12, 1945, a son of the late Alfred and Seraphina "Sally" (Petrauskas) Steponaitis. He was a 1963 graduate of Croft High School and he also received an Associate's Degree from the Naugatuck Valley Community College. John entered the US Army in 1968 and graduated the Warrant Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course, graduating with class 69-5a. After earning his wings, he served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division from 1969 to 1970 where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After active duty he served with the CT Army National Guard. Before his retirement, he worked as a corporate jet pilot for 25 years. He also worked as an aerospace assembler for Spectrum Associates, Inc. up until recently. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol. John enjoyed cars, especially Mustangs, his Harley Davidson, planes, helicopters and trains. John leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Ann Marie Howe and her husband, Louis of Middlebury, CT, Thomas Steponaitis and his partner, Brittany Brown of Columbus, OH and three grandchildren, Madison and Alexis Howe and Benjamin Brown. He also leaves his former wife, Evelyn (Scamporlina) Steponaitis, brother, Robert Steponaitis and his wife, Priscilla of Southbury and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Alfred Steponaitis and his wife, Cindy. Arrangements: John's funeral will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. A calling hour will be held on Thursday morning f0rom 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
