Ernest Scherb a Life Member of the VHPA, has closed his Flight Plan October 24, 2021 He was born to parents Helen and Ernest Scherb in New Haven, Connecticut on March 14, 1931 and was an only child. Ernest's military career began at a young age. He attended military boarding school and then later serving in the Marines, the Air Force, and finally the Army where he served as a helicopter pilot during a tour in Korea and two tours in Vietnam. After 23+ years of service, Ernest earned his degree from Ottawa University and retired to Arizona where he became the Comptroller at the Industrial Commision of Arizona. He and his wife, Josephine M. Scherb, later relocated to Washington state. He then worked for the Department of Defense during Desert Storm, as well as working as a statistician, an instructor, a technical author, and then a REALTOR and managing broker in Washington state. He was also the president of the Arizona Chapter of the American Statistical Association, a lifetime member of the Vietnam Helicopters Association, and a member of the Thurston County Realtor Association and NAR. Ernie loved his boat, fishing, mountain bike riding, nature, writing, reading, fine dining, and Sunday morning buffets--either at the Officers Club or at the casino with his friends. He could play piano and had a great singing voice, though not many knew that. He also loved travel and adventure. Ernest quietly loved his family, and he was always there when they needed him. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and wit, his intelligence, his generosity, and his creativity.
