More detail on this person: Bob led a full life that positively contributed to the lives of others. He graduated from High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland, from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee, and with a masters degree from Bowie State University. Bob flew helicopters (CH-46) for the Marine Corps in Viet Nam, then jets (A-4) for the 214th Black Sheep Squadron upon his return. After teaching mathematics and physical education in secondary school in Prince George's County, Maryland, he returned to the military, serving for two decades and retiring from the Army National Guard. His service included deployment in Operation Desert Storm. Throughout his life Bob actively participated in the community through scouting, coaching, refereeing, and organizing youth events. He is predeceased by his parents Pauline and Henry Mears, and Joseph Rogers; and by his sister Norvelle McQuillan. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory may be directed to Hospice of the Chesapeake and/or the Fisher House Foundation. A celebration of his life followed by a reception will be held at St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Bowie, MD, at 11:00 am on Saturday January 15th, 2022. On-line paying of respects available at Fort Lincoln Funeral Home web site. He will be inurned with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
