William Glenn Rainey passed away June 25, 2025, after a short but brave fight against cancer. He was born in Cottondale, Alabama on October 14, 1947, to the late Stanley Rainey and Inez Owen Rainey. Glenn attended Southern Wesleyan University before enlisting in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a helicopter pilot for 2 tours before being honorably discharged as a Warrant Officer. He returned to Southern Wesleyan to complete his studies where he met Sherry Harrison of Bacon County. Following graduation, Glenn moved to Pierce County and married Ms. Harrison. He spent the next 50 years serving as a pastor in several churches in the local area. He was an educator for nearly 3 decades in Pierce, Glynn, and Bacon Counties. Glenn taught GED classes at the Bacon Probation Detention Center and was retired from the National Guard. Glenn loved animals and spending time outdoors. He was a servant leader who loved the Lord and served the Lord by helping others in any way he could. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Inez Rainey, and a sister Carolyn Rainey Bates. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sherry Harrison Rainey; His children Ashley (Sherri) Rainey and Erica (Matthew) Stembridge; his grandson Landon Rainey; his brother Dale (Beth) Rainey; his sister Margaret (Lee) Millsaps; his nephew Hank Bates; and nieces Lena Bates Durham, and Nikki Mathews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 2 pm in the chapel of Crosby Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Woods officiating and eulogies by Dr. Larry Rainey and Hank Bates. Interment to follow at Friendship Methodist Church, 535 Coffee Rd, Alma, GA, with Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. The family will be receiving friends one hour before the service at 1:00 pm Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the funeral home. Active pallbearers include, Jason Barber, Joe Barber, Justin Barber, Hank Bates, Tim Hutchinson, and Keaton Sasser. Glenn was very giving, he would often make donations to St. Jude's Hospital, church charities, and veterans organizations.
