More detail on this person: Edward G. Ryan, 77, of Northbridge, passed away at home early morning on Friday, November 22, 2024. Edward leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Donna J. (Miller) Ryan; four children: Jonathan Crutchley and his wife Sena, of Greensboro, North Carolina; James Crutchley, of New York; Shawn Ryan and his wife Mervi, of Tampa, Florida; and Christine Silva and her husband Anthony, of Milford. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Nathan Crutchley, Frances Ryan, Isabelle, and Lincoln Silva; his brother, Richard Ryan, of Vermont; and his sister, Jean MacIver, of Ashland. Edward was predeceased by his brother Robert and sister Lynn. Born in Framingham on June 15, 1947, Edward was the son of the late Francis and Rita (Conroy) Ryan. He graduated from Framingham South High School and enlisted in the United States Army in May of 1967. A decorated veteran, Edward flew numerous missions as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, earning several honors, including the Bronze Star and Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from the Army in 1995 after a distinguished career and went on to serve as a flight simulator instructor at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In 1999, after living 25 years in North Carolina, Edward and Donna moved to Northbridge to be closer to their family. Throughout his life and travels, Edward made many lasting friendships across the globe. He was deeply respected and loved by those who knew him. A reserved man, he carried himself with quiet pride as a veteran of the Army. Edward was a devoted and faithful Catholic, and his presence will be missed by family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Calling Hours are Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Carr Funeral Home from 4-6 PM. Edward's Funeral Mass will be at 10 AM, Wednesday, December 4, at Saint Peter's Church, 39 Church Ave., Northbridge. Following the Funeral Mass, the burial will be at 2 PM in Bourne, at the Massachusetts National Cemetary, for those who would like to attend. In place of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 3033 Wilson Blvd, Suite 300, Arlington, VA 22201
