More detail on this person: Lenoir City - Charles E. Rice of Lenoir City, born May 28, 1941 passed away June 10, 2021 at Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans Home with his wife Kris by his side. He was preceded in death by parents Shelby and Tennie Rice, sister Shirley Rice Dodson, brother Fred Rice and nephew David Hartman. He is survived by loving wife of 40 years, Kris, brother Bob (Sandy), daughter Deborah and sons Michael Rice and Jason (Natalie) Jenkins-Rice, grandchildren Matthew Rice, Isaac and Everly Jenkins-Rice, nieces and nephews Rick, Suzie, Brian and Barry Rice, Joe Potter, Bruce and Scott Hartman. He loved his home on the lake and the lake life. His children and grandchildren meant the world to him. Charlie was an Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart and Air Medal. He was a helicopter pilot with the rank of CW3. In 1968 on his second tour, he was shot down resulting in devastating injuries that he dealt with for the remainder of his life. He was an honors graduate of Embry Riddle and Stetson Universities. He continued to fly for many years until his health eventually prohibited it. He then had a career as a civil service employee in various government agencies that spanned 20 years until his retirement. Thank you to the wonderful staffs at Ben Atchley and Parkwest Hospital for their kind and loving care for the last few years. A celebration of life will be held at Central United Methodist Church, 301 Hickory Creek Road, Lenoir City on Friday, June 18th with visitation from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with service to follow. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 448, Lenoir City TN 37771.
