More detail on this person: CARL ROSSOMME OBITUARY Carl George Rossomme, retired Commanding Officer of the 316th Medical Evacuation Detachment, passed away on Sunday, the 15th of May, 2022. He was 72 years of age. Major Rossomme was a veteran of the United States Army. He served our country flying Huey Helicopters during the Vietnam War and also flew for the Army during Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He loved his country and served as the Commanding Officer of the 316th Medical Evacuation Detachment until his retirement. After retiring, Major Rossomme served as a Licensed Pilot for the Civil Air Patrol. Not only was he active in the U.S. Army, he was also active in the community. Major Rossomme served as a scout leader and worked with his youngest son to earn his Eagle Scout Award. Carl loved the outdoors and enjoyed many hunting and fishing excursions. He also loved serving as a docent with both the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Birmingham Museum of Flight, along with being a proud supporter of Broadway in Birmingham. Of all his accomplishments and titles, Carl was most proud of being a father and grandfather to his family. Survivors include his four children, Heather Rossomme Cole (Ray); Justin Rossomme (Carrie), Brittany Rossomme Schneider (Marc), and Trevor Rossomme (Stormie). He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren, Devin Riley, Elizabeth Riley, Mason Forman, Zoe Forman, Christian Forman, Savannah Rossomme, Jackson Rossomme, Raven Schneider, Silas Bonner, Julian Schneider, and Abel Schneider. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation and reception honoring Carl's life on Wednesday, the 1st of June, 2022 from five o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening at Ridout's Valley Chapel in Homewood. In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in Major Carl Rossomme's name be directed to the American Cancer Society located at 1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, Alabama 35205 or online at www.cancer.org. Services are under the direction of Ridout's Valley Chapel (205-879-3401) in Homewood.
