More detail on this person: Retired U.S. Army Colonel Robert (Bob) Nelson Pritchard, 76, passed away on January 12, 2024, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Bob passed surrounded by family and loved ones and will be forever remembered as a loving husband and father. He was preceded in death by his father, James Elvin Pritchard and his mother, Mary Whitehill Pritchard. Bob began his career as a Virginia Beach police officer. Later, he enlisted in the United States Army before earning a commission as a 2nd LT. He would go on to serve for 27 years. Bob was a decorated Vietnam veteran, earning the Bronze Star and Legion of Merit as a helicopter combat pilot. Other highlights of his military career include serving as the Provost Marshal of the United States Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Army Criminal Investigative Division (CID) in Alabama and Washington, D.C. Bob earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Maryland, a Master of Science at Jacksonville State University and a Juris Doctorate at Regent University. After passing the Virginia State Bar, he worked as an attorney until his retirement in 2023. Bob was an avid classic car enthusiast and real estate investor. He had a group of childhood friends as well as those he met through his interests that he cherished. He never met a stranger and was loved by all who met him. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband for 56 years to Barbara J. Pritchard. He is survived by Barbara, his brother James Griggs Pritchard, his children Kimberly Pritchard, Amber Jaquez, Robert Pritchard II, five grandsons and two beloved dogs- Skipper and Molly. Bob will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery joining his great grandfather and grandfather. A private family service will be held at a later date.
