More detail on this person: Charles Samuel Meadows Jr., known affectionately to friends and family as Chuck, passed away from a brief illness on June 24, 2024, at the age of 80 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on August 13, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee, Chuck lived a life marked by intelligence, courage, and a faith that guided him through every season of his journey. Chuck's early years were spent in the warm embrace of his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents, Lila and Charles Samuel Meadows Sr., and his brother, Joseph Mark Meadows. Chuck studied piano for ten years, and he often played the organ for services at St. Stephen's Methodist church where his family attended. Hs was a 1961 graduate of Treadwell High School. He played the clarinet in the band, was an officer in the Army ROTC and also performed with the drill team. It was at Treadwell that he met the love of his life, Donna. He attended the University of Memphis (formerly Memphis State University) where he performed with the Airforce ROTC drill team. He enjoyed studying Math and Psychology. While he attended MSU, he worked as an inhalation therapist at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. A proud decorated Vietnam Veteran, Chuck served his country as a helicopter pilot with the US Army. He served his country with the same dedication that he would later bring to every aspect of his life. His experiences in the military not only shaped his character but also instilled in him a profound sense of duty, and an indomitable spirit. These qualities were evident to all who knew him, and they earned him the respect and admiration of his peers. Between his two tours to Vietnam, Chuck, Donna, and their oldest daughter Amanda lived in Bamberg, Germany. After leaving the Army, he and his family moved from Memphis to Beaumont, Texas. It was there that he began a career in the construction and commissioning of chemical plants, settling in Corpus Christi, Texas. After retiring in Corpus Christi, Chuck worked in Houston, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Nigeria. Retiring again and finally, he and Donna took vacations closer to home, seeing the US. Chuck was a devoted husband and father who took great joy in spending time with his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love that will be carried on by Donna Clark Meadows, his wife of 58 years, and their daughters, Amanda Brooke Crook (Clay) and Lorelei Meadows Jenkin (Chris), and their adoring grandchildren, Samuel Austin Wilson (Amanda), Sydney Elizabeth Balderas (Myles), Vienne Noelle Crook Avalos (Mateo), Zane Preston Tilton, Dane Bennett Crook, and Jules Foster Crook. Their great-grandchildren, Elijah Daniel Balderas, Liam James Balderas, Noelle Eden and Marko Quinn Avalos, will grow up hearing stories of their great-grandfather's unwavering strength and kindness. Those who knew Chuck will remember him as a man of intelligence and courage. He approached every challenge with determination and every success with humility. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his actions and decisions, and providing a source of comfort and hope to those around him. In his leisure time, Chuck found happiness in simple pleasures, whether he was sharing a meal with his family or recounting tales of days gone by. He and his wife, Donna, enjoyed spending time with their great-grandchildren. His presence was a gift that enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to share in these moments. A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Chuck's life and legacy at 1:30 PM followed by final military honors and a reception on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Service, YORKTOWN BLVD. As we say goodbye to this extraordinary man, we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit will continue to guide us, just as it always has.
