More detail on this person: Bill Meehan, as he was known, passed away peacefully at home on February 15, 2025, surrounded by his family. He died from complications arising from his long-term battle with Alzheimer's. Mr. Meehan was born in Waterbury, Connecticut and attended Fairfield University before joining the U.S. Army in 1951. During his military career, Mr. Meehan was a member of both the 82nd and 11th Airborne Divisions, he served in the Korean War and two terms in Vietnam, where he was Commander of the 175th Assault Helicopter Company. Mr. Meehan commanded multiple missions in Vietnam and received numerous accommodations including the Legion of Merit and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He retired from the U.S. Army as Lieutenant Colonel after 20 years of dedicated service. During his military service and beyond, he continued his quest for higher education and in 1974 received his Doctorate in Education from Oklahoma State University. As an accomplished helicopter pilot and flight trainer, once leaving the military he worked as the Dean of Continuing Education at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and later as Director of Pilot Training for Air Logistics before retiring to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas. He was an avid sportsman, playing both baseball as a young man (having once attended spring training camp with the Brooklyn Dodgers) and college basketball, then turning to tennis and golf in later years. He spent his early mornings working (and completing) the daily crossword puzzle. He loved making breakfast for his family and will forever be remembered for his infamous "dough-dubbies," a treat that his children now make for their children and will likely be passed on to future generations. Mr. Meehan was a selfless, no-nonsense kind of man who never met a stranger. He had a great deal of respect for "solid citizens" and was in turn respected by others for living his life under the Golden Rule. He was a loving husband and father, a devout Catholic and a strong supporter of his church and related charities. Mr. Meehan leaves behind his beautiful wife Linda Lambert Meehan, to whom he was married for over 62 years, their five children and respective spouses and 18 amazing grandchildren. A visitation for Mr. Meehan will be held March 9 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas with a rosary taking place at 3:30 pm. A funeral mass will occur March 10 at 10:00 am at St. Helen Catholic Church in Georgetown with a military committal service to follow at 1:00 pm at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen. His family kindly asks that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Alzheimer's Research (alz.org) or to the support of Austin Hospice (hospiceaustin.org). They would also like to sincerely thank the caregivers from Visiting Angels for their kindness in Mr. Meehan's final years.
