More detail on this person: John Joseph Louis died at age 83 in Las Cruces on March 26, 2014. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 25, 1930 and had a long career of government services. John was a soldier in the United States Army for over 20 years and served in both Korea and Vietnam. He was an Army Aviator and among other medals, was awarded the Purple Heart. John retired from military service but continued as a civilian employee for the Department of Defense for over 20 years until he retired from White Sands Missile Range. John will be remembered as a tough and efficient, but loving and generous man who sought out knowledge, adventure and travel. He was a life member of the VFW Post 10124 where he loved to regale his comrades with tales of his adventures. He is survived by two sisters, Mary Vogel and Sarah Curie, his step-son, Robert Fulton Colvin, Jr; his granddaughters, Andrea Weaver, Teresa Stillings and Cheryl Chambers, as well as eight great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service with full military honors will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, April 4, 2014 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Road, Fort Bliss, Texas where John will be laid to rest next to his wife of 61 years, Cecile Cubbage Colvin Louis.
