More detail on this person: Ronald "Ron" Gutterud, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born on January 16, 1950, in Moorhead, Minnesota, Ron was the son of Gerald Gutterud and Patricia Zora. He moved to Riverside, California, with his family, where he shared a joyful childhood with his siblings, Richard, Mary, Randall, Marla, and Rodney. At just 19, Ron volunteered for the U.S. Army and proudly served as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, earning several commendations for his bravery and dedication. After his military service, he joined the Riverside City Fire Department, where he served as an engineer. Ron's passion for firefighting fueled his career until his retirement at 64_a milestone he met with great pride for his lifelong commitment to public service. Ron was a devoted father and a coach to his sons, Jeff and Jason, in both baseball and soccer, later passing his love of sports down to his grandsons and granddaughters. In his free time, Ron found joy in traveling, cheering for his cherished Green Bay Packers, solving jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards and games. He adored his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them. Ron's life will be honored in a Burial at Sea ceremony in San Diego on December 14th from 1:30 to 4:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina to celebrate the life of a man who served his country, community, and family with enduring love and pride. Ron will be dearly missed but forever remembered for his loyalty, kindness, and boundless love for his family and friends. Ron was a giving son, brother, husband, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years Linda, by his two sons, Jeffrey and Jason, his grandchildren: Skylar, Tasia, Jeff Jr., Andrew, Michael, Marley, Jaylee, Robert and Renee and also his brothers Richard, Randall, and Rodney and his sisters Mary and Marla.
