More detail on this person: Gary Dean Crane, age 76, of Dewart Lake, passed away unexpectedly as the result of a stroke on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Goshen Hospital. He was born on November 16, 1947 in Elkhart, Indiana the son of Hayden and Wahneta (Bunn) Crane. Gary graduated from Concord High School in 1965 and attended Purdue University until he was drafted to serve in Vietnam. He served his country honorably as a US Army Aviator and earned many medals including the distinguished flying cross. Following his military service, Gary graduated from Indiana University and went on to have a brilliant career. He was a college professor, railroad engineer, business administrator, accountant, and handy-man extraordinaire. Gary was a great story teller and writer. He was a lover of music, history, and dogs. He also enjoyed exploring the universe through reading. Gary is survived by his beloved companion, Nancy Warrick of Dewart Lake; a sister, Bonnie Penn; several nieces, including Wendy Crane and Cara Sample; two sons; grandchildren; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Rex Crane; and his companion of many years, Susan Taylor. A celebration of Gary's life will be held at a later date. In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County.
