More detail on this person: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Aicken who peacefully departed this world to join Jesus and his wife Patricia in heaven on June 18th 2025 in Ashburn, VA at the age of 91. Larry was born May 9th 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky to Arthur and Ada Aicken. In 1956, Larry graduated from the University of Kentucky, received his US Regular Army Commission. In 1957, he married the love of his life Patricia Garrison. He had an active military career that included flying helicopters in two tours of Vietnam where he earned 19 Air Medals with Valor and a Bronze Star. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1979 and started an almost 30 year career with GRC and AT&T retiring again in 2009. He continued working for the family business, Kessler Soils Engineering, until he was 80 years old. Larry continued to be an active member of Herndon United Methodist Church after Patricia's death in 2005. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Aicken, her mother Dorothy Garrison, his brother-in-law Walter Calain, his father Arthur and mother Ada, as well as his older brother Jack and his wife Janice. Larry is survived by his son Garry and his wife Virginia, grandson Arthur, two sisters-in-law Sharon Calain, Ronda Garrison and niece Amy Kapur. Memorial Service will be held at Herndon United Methodist Church on August 19th at 11:00 AM. Funeral Service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on August 20th at 11:00 Larry will be truly missed by family and friends but will forever be in our hearts. Col Aicken served two tours in Vietnam, his forst tour with the 227 AHB 65-66. He was selected to form and lead the 361 Aviation Company. Escourt in the fall of 1967 at Fort Hood Texas and took the Unit to Vietnam in April of 1968. Comprised of mostly second tour Gunship Ilots, theunit received Cobra transition in Country. Major Aicken turned the Unit over to Major Rodgers and went to the 52 CAB as S-3 until October of 1969 when he returned Stateside. He joined VHPA in the 90's and was active in the 361 ACE/AWC organization until his health would not allow his traveling. Great commander and Leader, he will be missed but not forgotten by those in the Unit.
